April 2014 Newsletter
Welcome to the April News of Christ Church Bayston Hill. It’s been a brilliantly busy March with several events happening in the last few weeks. Firstly an amazing evening was had by all at the soul:space baptism and confirmation night with Bishop Mark Rylands presiding. I was overwhelmed with the amazing atmosphere and sense of God’s presence and the support of the wider Christ Church community at this special event. Also a huge thank you on behalf of the young people attending the summer camp Soul Survivor this year. Over £800 was raised at the Quiz Night through cake baking and sponsorship which will pay for seven places. If you would like to sponsor a place or part of a place please contact Laura Whitmarsh our Pioneer Minister.
We also had a wonderful Sunday afternoon at the first Messy Church Extra (Messy Church is church especially for families) where we explored following Jesus and his promise to make us ‘fishers of people’. All these events are of course alongside the regular activities which have continued to flourish this month including Outlook, Senior Citizens’ Lunch and our ministry to Oakmeadow School where Children’s Missioner Emma Pickard led a four day Easter themed prayer space last month reaching over 300 children.
As Easter approaches I wonder how you’re finding the Life on the Frontline Course? I’ve had many interesting conversations with folks for whom this course is proving to be a great way to help them think more about whole-life discipleship; committed to God’s mission and how he might want to do more with us where we are day by day. Don’t forget the course is also part of our Sunday sermon series and if you have missed any of weeks so far you can listen again to every Sunday sermon here:
Following this on Good Friday 18th April from 2.00 p.m. – 4.00 p.m. we will be holding our annual Good Friday Holy Space of prayer and worship stations.
And on Easter Sunday 20th April we will be Celebrating Jesus’ resurrection and the new life he offers…
This time of reflection and preparation for Easter also coincides well with our annual church meeting which is coming up. This is where we reflect on last year’s events and hear about the joys and challenges we have faced as a community. The APCM this year will be held on Wed 30th April and everybody is most welcome. At this important meeting we will worship together, elect members of PCC and office holders such as wardens, give thanks for all that God is doing in and through Christ Church and reflect on the vision God is inspiring. This year we are in need of several new PCC members and if you would like to consider helping to serve Christ Church is this way I would be thrilled to hear from you. The PCC is a group of people who attend Christ church and meet approximately 10 times a year to discuss various elements of church life and development. It is always a time of great community and blessing as we discuss how to move forward and reach more people with God’s love.
