September 2014 Newsletter

Hello,

As we start the Autumn term at Christ Church I am excited by the plans God has for us and the activities that we are already looking forward to hosting as a result of his leading.

But before we look ahead, many wonderful activities have just taken place this summer and I hope that whatever the summer months were like for you, you were able to enjoy being part of the Christ Church community and felt God’s love as a result of your worship, friendships and the way you were served by others.

Whilst on holiday in France Kate, the children and myself visited Taize for evening worship.  It was a remarkable and beautiful experience for us all.  The longing for that community is for all people to know and experience the depth of the love of God, so that this in turn leads to unity and reconciliation.  Where would we be without the love of God?  Personally I dread to think!

I pray that, for each one of us, we will know and experience the depth of God's love afresh over the coming weeks and months - so that the whole of our lives is an offering in response to that life-changing love.  Lets be committed to pray too that God's love not only touches our lives, but our places of work, our families, our neighbourhoods, the community of Bayston Hill.

I am also conscious that September can bring mixed emotions for many; the return to school for children & teachers, the exciting and nervous start of university or the search for employment, the beginning of cooler weather and taking stock of the year so far and the often busy run up to Christmas.

September invariably brings change. In whatever change you face, be encouraged to lean on God for strength, guidance and comfort. I pray that in whatever joy or struggles you face, you will know God's presence with you everyday.

You may know that my daily prayer for our church, this village and Shrewsbury is this - Lord, set our hearts on fire with love for you. Please join me in this prayer.

Pathways to Ministry Course
This autumn Lichfield diocese is running a Pathways to Ministry course.  This is a one year course for people who are exploring their Christian faith and discipleship and reflecting on their own particular gifts and calling. If you are interested in learning more you can read up here.

Jesus Christ Superstar
You may know, I'm playing the part of Pilate in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar at Theatre Severn this month.

It's a talented cast and is sure to be another great Wigle production. Both performances are in aid of The Diamond Appeal - supporting people living with dementia.  Tickets now available.

Proposed Development of the Oaklands and Glebe sites
The steering group (representing Parish Council, Shropshire Library Service, Shropshire Education Department, Christ Church, York House, Guides and Scouts, Lichfield Diocese and Shropshire Council) are finalising the initial proposal for the development of the Oaklands School and Glebe sites ready for public consultation.

The steering group is committed to keeping in mind the views expressed during the initial consultation and also to maximising potential benefits for our village.  The proposal will be presented at a public meeting of the Local Joint Committee at the Methodist Church on Tuesday 30th September, 7 p.m.

During October Jack Parry and myself will be presenting the proposal to members of Christ Church for prayer and discussion which can be fed back to PCC - please watch out for further details.

Next year

Lee Abbey
If you’re thinking about planning your holidays for next year already consider Lee Abbey on 7th – 12th April 2015.  I have been asked to speak on ‘Surprised by Jesus’ – an exploration of key aspects of the post resurrection Bible narrative.  I would be lovely to have members from Christ Church attending with us that week.  Please book direct with Lee Abbey.

Please continue to check the website for the latest news and join our private Christ Church Bayston Hill Facebook Group for updates.

Take care and see you soon.
Blessings,
Tim
